mcksean: I agree - plugging in an external keyboard made an immense difference when fiddling with the terminal. However, I have since learned that I can SSH into the XO - so I can control the terminal from my desktop PC now, which is even easier! As for Mutt, I don't think that should be much of a problem. At least installing Alpine was easy (though that was on Xfce).

hey fnd — i’ve not had much time yet to experiment with my xo’s yet — however the one thing that made an enormous difference for me was plugging in a usb mouse. when i did that, it felt like the entire ui sped up (and when i plugged in an external keyboard it sped up even more). all a matter of perception…so far the browser works well, and i’ve had fun writing hello world in python. i need to carve out some more time to work on it — let’s keep in touch as we’re learning. it would be interesting to install mutt on it so i had full access to our mail server…hmm

Thanks for this, which I found very interesting. Unfortunately I didn’t find anyone in the US to take one in for me and although I tried to get one into the UK, I couldn’t get it done.

I agree with your comments about the best use of the money, but over the last month I have explored some of the new technological ways of engaging and communicating, and I am convinced there will be some strong benefits here. Clearly intel didn’t agree.

Well done for supporting the scheme and have fun with your own one.
